Audiobooks: Kick The Modulation Habit To Become A Better Narrator, by Paul Ruben

If you want a vocal lesson in how NOT to narrate an audiobook, take the New York subway, says award-winning audiobook producer/director and teacher Paul Ruben. The modulated sing-song style of vocal instructions there - "Stand clear of the closing doors" - is the opposite of effective storytelling, he says. An emotional disconnect. NBC Program Selects Two Act One Alumni

Congratulations to Act One alumni Zoila Galeano (WP ’06) and Jim Brandon (WP Jan ’10) who were both accepted to NBC’s Writers on the Verge program this fall. Two of the  eight writers accepted out of this year’s 1200 applicants are Act One alumni.

Zoila and Jim have both been participants in Act One’s TV Track program. They’ll spend the next twelve weeks writing a television pilot and a spec script and for the NBC program which focuses on readying participants for a staff writer position on a television series.
